About 5G technology
The key aspect of 5G technology, besides technical improvements (such as broad capacity and minimal delays), was the product approach. Enhanced functionality, including the use of virtualized solutions, makes it possible to create new products by adapting technology not only for ordinary users of smartphones but also for new consumers — industries, big business and the State. For example, 5G technology will become an important part of the national project Digital Economy, implemented by the State. The main three basic services implemented in 5G networks are:
Enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), implementing ultra-broadband communications for “heavy” content transfer;
Massive Machine-Type Communications (mMTC), IoT support (ultranarrowband communications);
Ultra-Reliable Low Latency communication (URLLC), provision of special service class critical to the smallest communications failure and increase in data transfer delays.
The first commercial networks in the world were launched at the end of 2018. In Russia, the launch of 5G networks is expected in 2021-2022. However, even now MTS has pilot 5G network areas in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Tomsk and Vladivostok. MTS PJSC has a specialized 5G laboratory at VDNH, Moscow, where the company’s partners and startups can test their products within the MTS 5G coverage area, check product assumption/KPI and get a full range of technical support from MTS experts.
